Ride Days
Christmas Toy Run at Bribie Island - 11th December 2011
Our final ride for 2011 was our Christmas Toy Run, where riders brought a Christmas gift on the day to be donated to a local Bribie Island Foundation, Happiness House, who run a respite camp for disabled and disadvantaged kids at Woorim on Bribie. This year we left the VMR boat ramp and followed the coastline to Redcliffe, on the way back we travelled up the Caboolture river, which was a first for most riders on the trip. The Caboolture river meandered for kilometres inland which we followed until we reached the weir at Caboolture. The trip took a total of 3 hours and we enjoyed a BBQ on the return the the boat ramp. Thanks to all those who donated toys, they were much appreciated by Happiness House.

Woodenbong - 15th-16th October 2011
On the weekend of 15/16 October we attended an offroad event hosted by Australian Dirt Bike Adventures, taking an Outlander 650 Max and a 1000 Commander SSV. Saturday was hot and sunny and we enjoyed driving through the forest trails, however in the afternoon we came over a hill and saw a dark, ominous storm heading towards us and the camp site. We rode home through lightening and rain, and got back to find our tent and gear had needed to be rescued by our neighbours (thanks Ray Bredhauer and friends) Saturday night we enjoyed a Bbq and the organised entertainment, and on Sunday hit the tracks once again. It was another great weekend hosted by Ray Buchanan, his weekends are always well run and a great opportunity for families to ride together at their own pace.

Jacobs Well to Dunwich - 9th October 2011
On Sunday October 9th our group headed off from Jacobs Well Boat Ramp for a ride up to Dunwich on Stradbroke Island. We had great conditions again with little wind and clear water conditions. Once at Dunwich we stopped at "Little Ships" Club and had lunch overlooking the water which was lovely. This is a great ride to do with family and friends and the guys at the Club are very welcoming to skiers and boaties who can moor and use their facilities. Conditions stayed good for the return trip and it was another great day on the bay.

Bribie Island to Tangalooma - 18th September 2011
On Sunday 18th September our group of 30+ skis rode from the VMR boat ramp at Bribie over to The Wrecks at Tangalooma. We had great conditions with little swell and beautiful clear water, and once anchored up, we enjoyed snorkelling and cruising around The Wrecks. We then cruised up to the Cape Moreton and played in the surf before returning to Bribie where we enjoyed a bbq on the beach. It was a fantastic day, and one we will schedule in again in the Summer months. Thanks to Ian, Peter, Barry and Steve for keeping an eye on everyone throughout the ride.
Bribie Island Ride - 3rd July 2011
On Sunday 3rd July our group of 25 skis set off from the Air Sea Rescue Base at Bribie Island. It was a little cool as we skied through the narrow channels of Pumicestone Passage, and we enjoyed pleasant conditions with little wind along the way. Once at Caloundra we stopped at a lovely beach on the northern tip of Bribie Island for a half hour break, with some skiers taking the opportunity to ride to the opposite side of the Passage for a coffee. When it was time to leave, it was decided that the conditions were good enough to ride down the outside of Bribie Island. As we headed out over the Caloundra Bar, a couple of curious dolphins swam alongside us, which was a real highlight. It was a more challenging ride but also a great opportunity for newer club members to experience the varying conditions of Moreton Bay while riding in a group.

Glass House Mt's Quad Ride - 26th June 2011
On Sunday the 26th June our group headed up to The Glasshouse Mountains for our latest quadding adventure. I was riding a Can-Am Outlander 650 Max XT , and other quads included a Can-Am Outlander 800 Ltd, a Can-Am 800 Renegade, a Can-Am Outlander 500 Max XT and a Can-Am Outlander 650 Max XT. Conditions were good as recent rain kept the dust to a minimum, and we cruised for a couple of hours, finding a number of mudholes along the way. These proved challenging, for some more than others :) It was a great day on the quads and I can't wait for the next one. Thanks to Brendan, Sandy and Brock for their hospitality once again.

Brisbane River Ride - 5th June 2011
On Sunday June 5th a flotilla of 42 keen skiers and their passengers set off from Colmslie Boat Ramp and headed up the Brisbane River, many for the first time since the devastating floods earlier this year. Many riverfront properties showed obvious signs of damage, with debris, boats and pontoons still marooned high and dry on properties. Our usual bbq stop at Kookaburra Park, Karralee, has not been restored or reopened since the floods, so this year we stopped for our break at Joseph Brady Park, Karana Downs. The BBQ was working overtime, and it was great to have a bite to eat and chat to fellow riders. Thanks must go to Ian and Lynne McClenaghan, Peter Spiller, Phil Davidson and everyone who helped make it a successful day.
Fraser Island Trek - May 2011
As we drove to Rainbow Beach, our starting point for Fraser 2011, the predicted gale force wind warnings were certainly causing some concern, though when we arrived at the Rainbow Beach Motel, our Friday night meeting point was a hive of activity, as riders checked their skis and 4wd crews made sure they were ready to go early the next day.
Saturday morning dawned clear and sunny, and after dropping all 18 skis at Carlo Boat Ramp, the 4wds headed for the barge across to Fraser. Although a relatively low high tide was predicted, the 4wds could not make it around Hook Point via the beach, so took the inland track, coming back onto Seventy Five Mile Beach. Making good time, the 4wds arrived at Orchid Beach around 12 noon. Keys and gear was then distributed amongst the houses, before heading across the island to Wathumba Creek where we were scheduled to meet back up with the skis for their lunch and refuelling stop.
The skis had left Carlo Boat Ramp around 8am and conditions varied for the first few hours, riders and passengers enjoyed a welcome break for morning tea at Kingfisher Resort. Continuing on from Kingfisher to Moon Point saw bumpy conditions with a following sea, however the run to Wathumba Creek was smooth with clear water revealing a variety of fish and marine life.
After our lunch and refuelling stop at Wathumba, and with fresh riders on some skis, the group headed off to Orchid Beach. The skis cruised, enjoying the spectacular scenery along the way. Once around the point however, and no longer protected from the wind, we quickly realised there was little beach break to ride in, with swells of 3-4 metres coming through.
The 4wd crews had meanwhile driven back across the island and were waiting at Orchid Beach, anxiously watching the horizon as the tide once again edged closer to the cars. Night arrives early in May at Fraser and as we contemplated having to shift the cars to higher ground off the beach, the first riders appeared in the distance.
It was quickly all systems go as riders beached their skis in front of the cars, many exhausted from the day's gruelling journey. 4wd crews worked overtime, lifting and loading skis onto trailers before they were driven to their allocated houses. Many cars did multiple trips, with the last skis off the beach as night closed in.
After a hot shower and dinner, most called it a night, though some enjoyed recalling the day and it's highlights over a few beverages. Sunday was a leisure day, and we enjoyed the beautiful weather, visiting Champagne Pools, Indian Head and Waddy Point.
Everyone gathered on Sunday night for our awards party, though riders were mentally preparing themselves for the challenges of a four hour ride in the shore break from Indian Head to the barges at Inskip Point. The group departed Orchid Beach on Monday morning, with the 4wds driving down the beach, travelling alongside the skis, ready to assist any riders that needed it. Conditions were rough but the tide was favourable and we made good time down the beach, past the Maheno Wreck, to our lunch stop at Eli Creek.
Skis were refuelled and bodies rested, as we enjoyed a break and took our annual Fraser Island Trek Photos. We regrouped again at Hook Point, and as the skis headed off on their final 10 klm leg back to Carlo Boat Ramp, the cars boarded the barge back to Inskip Point and we reflected on what a great weekend we had enjoyed.
This year's group was a mix of previous Trekkers and first time attendees. It was a challenging weekend for all the riders, and already plans are being made for next year's Trek.

Yamba Overnight Adventure - 2nd - 3rd April 2011
Our April adventure was a weekend away in Yamba. Seventeen skis/couples travelled down to Yamba, arriving at various times on the Saturday. It's been year's since we travelled down through northern NSW and I had forgotten what beautiful country it is. Once we unloaded at our cabin, we headed to a local club for a group dinner, which was a great night. Sunday morning saw the skis in the water by 8am, we then headed west along the mighty Clarence River. Early cloudcover dispersed and it was a glorious day, the river was smooth and glassy. We cruised the 70 klms to Grafton, where we rested for about an hour, before coming back to Yamba, travelling along different offshoots of the Clarence from time to time.

Round North Straddie - 16th March 2011
Mid week rides are a bit of a treat, you get to take a break from work and enjoy some time on your ski. Wednesday the 16th of March was our first mid-week ride of the year and we had great conditions as we rode around North Stradbroke Island. We left from Cleveland Marine Rescue Boat Ramp at 7.30am and were back around 11.00am, most skis making the journey on one tank of fuel. I haven't seen the ocean side of North Straddie that smooth in a long time - it made it nice and easy for us to keep a fast pace coming down the outside in the shore break. Hopefully our next mid-week ride will have similar conditions.

Pumicestone Passage Run - 6th March 2011
On the 6th of March, 16 ski's embarked on an adventure through the narrow creeks of Pumicestone Passage. Although the weather was not ideal for riding, a great day was had by all. One of the highlights of the ride was winding our way through the magnificent scenery of Coochin Creek. However, as the day progressed the wind picked up, making the return journey to the boat ramp quite a challenge. When we arrived we were greeted by the delicious smell of Dee's famous sausage sizzle. As always a huge thanks must go to Ian, Peter and Steve for their constant help throughout the ride.

Bay Island Ride - 6th February, 2011
Brisbane Jet Skis kicked the year off with their first ride day on Sunday the 6th of February. We had thirty one skis keen to get out on the water for our popular Bay Island Ride that left Cleveland boat ramp early Sunday morning, due to the extreme weather we have been experiencing. For some this had been the first opportunity to get on the water since Christmas. Our group left Cleveland boat ramp and set off up the inside of Coochiemudlo Island, crossing the unsheltered water just off Cleveland I was a little put off by the rough conditions, but once we were in the protection of the Island, the water conditions improved. We continued South passing Macleay and Lamb Islands, stopping occasional to have a drink and regroup. We were met with piercing rain as we came on the inside of Russell and North Stradbroke Islands, however it didn’t last long and the group continued down past Cobby Cobby Island and out to Jumpinpin, where we stopped for a break to stretch our legs and give people the opportunity to jump some waves in the surf. From there it was only a short trip to Cabbage Tree Point boat ramp, where we were greeted with a hot BBQ and cold drinks. After lunch, skiers got re-organised and we headed back to Cleveland, although conditions were a little rough on the journey back. Big Thank You to everyone for coming along, in particular to Ian and Steve for their help on the day, it was great to see so many skis out on the water, especially the six ladies, who in many instances were riding better then the guys.
If you want to try this ride by yourself or in a smaller group, pick a high tide so you aren’t too restricted by the channel markers.

Atkinson Dam Gymkana Day – 7th November, 2010
On Sunday November 7th we held our annual Gymkhana Day at Atkinson Dam, 1 hours drive North West of Brisbane. Beautiful weather greeted the large number of keen jet skiers and their families who came out for the day to show their skills at on-water basketball, the heart pumping Jet Ski slalom or to simply relax by the water. With activities kicking off at around 10am it was clear that experience was the key with the winner of the Jet Ski slalom being BJS owner Ross Geurts. Our Kawasaki QLD sales rep Rob Merchant in no reflection of the speed of the Kawasaki Ultra 260x and more on the rider’s ability clocked one of the slowest times of the day :-). The equal winners of the Jet Ski basketball were Darryl and John Nissen and BJS’s own Natalie Geurts and partner Stephen Grassi. BJS also had a variety of watersports equipment available, supplied by Connelly and Bodyglove watersports equipment supplier Surf Wind and Fire. The most popular tube was the new three person standup KAMIKAZI, which many families enjoyed throughout the day. The BBQ was running hot with our famous sausage sizzle and overall it was a great family day and we look forward to next year’s event.
